VASER Lipo NYC

Unfortunately, diet and exercise are sometimes not enough to banish the stubborn fat deposits on the abdomen, flanks and thighs. Dr. Nina Naidu, a prominent NYC plastic surgeon, now offers VASERlipo® — a safe, advanced, body-contouring technology that removes fat from around large muscle groups and make your body look more defined.

For many of Dr. Naidu’s patients, choosing VASERlipo® is as much about removing excess fat as it is about self-confidence.

Body contouring – including VASERlipo® — is a creative endeavor that improves a woman’s physical beauty and enhances her self-confidence. Dr. Naidu and her staff are dedicated to providing women in NYC with excellent results and the highest quality of care possible.

What is VASERlipo®?

VASER stands for Vibration Amplification of Sound Energy at Resonance. This high-tech, hand-held device uses ultrasound (sound waves) to liquefy fat under the surface of the skin. The liquefied fat is then suctioned from the body using a small tube called a cannula. The advantage of VASERlipo® is that the sound waves target only the fat cells, which makes them much easier to remove.

VASERlipo® is used to remove areas of fat deposits that cannot be reduced through diet and exercise. Since VASERlipo® is highly targeted, it can be used on virtually any part of the body. Although most commonly used on the abdomen, hips and thighs, VASERlipo® can also be used to reduce fatty tissue on the arms, under the chin, or calves. VASERlipo® is not a substitute for weight loss or for healthy habits.

What is the difference between liposuction and VASERlipo®?

There are several differences between traditional liposuction and VASERlipo®. With traditional liposuction, fluid containing an intravenous salt solution, lidocaine (a local anesthetic) and epinephrine (a medication that helps to contract blood vessels and limit blood loss) is injected into the fatty tissue. After this fluid is injected, a cannula is used to suction the fat cells and the injected fluid directly from under the skin.

VASERlipo® uses ultrasound to liquefy the fat cells after the tumescent fluid has been injected. The liquid fat cells are then suctioned directly from under the skin. There is less trauma to the surrounding tissue and less bruising. Recovery after VASERlipo® is generally faster than recovery following tradition liposuction

How much fat can be removed using VASERlipo®?

VASERlipo® is used for body contouring and not for weight loss. In order to prevent complications secondary to fluid shift in your body, Dr. Naidu does not recommend removing more than five liters of fat during your VASERlipo® procedure.

Am I a good candidate for VASERlipo®?

You are a good candidate for VASERlipo® if you are not overweight, your weight is stable, and you have fat deposits that have not responded to diet or exercise. You should also have a healthy lifestyle, not smoke, and not have a condition that would interfere with healing. Successful candidates have good skin quality and realistic expectations. The best way to find out if you’re a good candidate for VASERlipo® is to schedule a consultation with Dr. Naidu in our NYC office.

Your first VASERlipo® consultation with Dr. Naidu in NYC

The first part of the VASERlipo® process is a comprehensive consultation in our NYC office. Dr. Naidu will get to know you and understand your goals for VASERlipo®.

During your consultation, you will need to tell Dr. Naidu about your medical history and your use of medications, nicotine, alcohol or supplements. She will want to know about any previous surgeries. If you plan to become pregnant in the future, Dr. Naidu will advise you whether VASERlipo® is appropriate at this time.

Dr. Naidu will conduct a physical examination of your body. She will be looking at the amount of fat, the area of fat deposits, and the quality of your skin. Dr. Naidu may also take some measurements to help determine the degree of contouring needed to meet your goals.

At this appointment, we will take pre-operative photographs. These photographs are an important part of your surgical planning and are considered part of your medical record. They will never be shown to other patients without your written permission.

At the end of the consultation, Dr. Naidu will let you know if you are a good candidate for VASERlipo®. She will also let you know if any other procedures will be needed to meet your aesthetic goals. Dr. Naidu will educate you about VASERlipo® so that you can make an informed decision. She will never pressure you to schedule VASERlipo® or any other procedure.

Your Second Consultation with Dr. Naidu

If you decide to proceed with VASERlipo®, you will have a second consultation with Dr. Naidu in our NYC office. At this appointment, Dr. Naidu will discuss the surgical plan in greater detail.

Depending on your medical history, Dr. Naidu may advise you to discontinue certain medications prior to VASERlipo®. If you are a smoker, you may not smoke for eight weeks before or after the procedure. For your safety, Dr. Naidu may also order additional screening tests or request preoperative clearance from your primary care physician.

VASERlipo® Procedure in NYC

Your VASERlipo® will be performed at an outpatient surgery center in NYC. Although local anesthesia may be sufficient for small areas, most patients are more comfortable with general anesthesia. Depending upon the number and size of the areas that are being treated, your VASERlipo® will take between one and three hours.

Dr. Naidu will meet with you prior to surgery. She will make marks on your body to indicate the locations that will receive VASERlipo® and how she wants each area to look following the procedure. Once the anesthesia is administered, Dr. Naidu will make tiny incisions in each area targeted for fat removal. Tumescent fluid will be infiltrated under the skin. She will then gently insert the VASERlipo® cannula (a thin tube that looks like a pen) under your skin. As Dr. Naidu moves the cannula back and forth, the sound waves will break apart your fat cells and turn them into liquid form.

Next, Dr. Naidu will insert a second cannula under your skin. She will then use suction to remove the liquefied fat. Your incisions are very small and stitches will be placed.

VASERlipo® Recovery

You will wake up from VASERlipo® wearing a compression garment. This garment must be worn at all times for 2-6 weeks, depending upon Dr. Naidu’s specific recommendation.

Immediately following the surgery, you should rest for several hours. You will be able to perform light activities around the house later that day and evening. You may have moderate bruising, drainage, or swelling for the first few days. Many patients report very little pain following VASERlipo®. However Dr. Naidu will prescribe pain medication to keep you comfortable.

You will be encouraged to begin walking the day after VASERlipo®, but must avoid heavy exercise for two weeks. You should anticipate remaining out of work for three or four days after your procedure. Generally the final results are visible within three to six months.

Many of Dr. Naidu’s patients are very independent women who are reluctant to ask for help. However, some degree of post-surgical assistance will be required. We strongly recommend that you create a plan to take care of yourself and your family, so that you can focus on your recovery.

Complications of VASERlipo®

During your consultation, Dr. Naidu will explain the risks of VASERlipo® so that you can make an informed decision. As with other surgeries, the main complications are bleeding, infection and scarring. Complications can be reduced by providing a thorough medical history and carefully following your pre-operative and post- operative instructions.
